It's important for Pacificans to realize we do not want unchecked growth in short term rentals. We are looking for approaches that eliminate bad actors, keep the current cap of 150 total units and allow all the benefits of responsbile tourism to our coastal community. Well managed, AirBNB rentals — that allow visitors to create lifelong memories here — are good for Pacifica.

If you agree that Pacifica should remain accessible to tourism, please join our group. Simply email us at join@pacificatourism.org with the subject line “JOIN” so that we can move forward with preventing a city ordinance that will damage our city budget and hurt small business in our beautiful town.

Currently, the city is drafting an ordinance to cap unhosted short-term rentals at 90 days. The city's own employees have warned the Council that this will result in an immediate decline in city taxes and fees collected of at least $700,000 in the first year. This does not account for additional loss in tourist revenue. We have projected this will be in the millions of dollars.

Please join us. We need your voice to convince the Council this is bad for Pacifica. We will be organizing and providing real-time updates in our fight to preserve responsible access to out beautiful city.

I believe that Pacifica should remain accessible to visitors from around California — and around the world — who want to visit with their families and enjoy the peaceful quiet of our coastal town.

I do not believe a cap of 90-days for unhosted rentals is in the best interest of small businesses or our community. I do not believe we should lose the projected $10 million dollars annually from short-term rentals that goes to small businesses and helps to fund essential city services.

We reject the 90-day cap on unhosted rentals proposed by City Council as these currently make up the bulk of our Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT). The proposed ordinance will hurt small business and needlessly punish operators who have done nothing wrong. The decision is fiscally irresponsible and bad for Pacifica.
